Bio

Head baseball coach Jon Phillips begins his first year with the Roadrunner program, having spent the past six years with fellow Region XIV member Bossier Parish Community College. There, Phillips served as Associate Head Coach and was instrumental in helping guide the 2025 Cavaliers to a first-place finish in Region XIV’s North Zone and a national ranking. In his time with BPCC, the Cavs saw more than 100 athletes move on to four-year universities – including more than 50 who signed with Division I schools.

Before his stint with BPCC, Phillips spent time at Lamar University, where he coached first base while developing the infield. He also served as an assistant coach at Texas A&M University-Texarkana, where he helped boost the Eagles to a 33-20 record and berth in to the NAIA National Championship Tournament.

While still attending college, Phillips from 2012-2014 served as an assistant coach for the East Texas Canes, an 18-under summer league team. In those two years, the Canes went 91-11 and boasted 50 NCAA Division I signees and five Major League Baseball draft picks.

Phillips finished with a solid collegiate playing career, earning All-Great American Conference honors as a third baseman with Southern Arkansas University in 2014 while leading the Muleriders in several categories: batting average (.346), on-base percentage (.462) and walks (35). His totals that season also included 15 doubles, two homers and 30 RBI. Phillips finished his career at SAU having played in 115 games, posting a career batting average of .315 while scoring 85 runs and 60 RBI. The Muleriders with Phillips earned consecutive GAC Tournament championships, along with the 2015 regular-season title.

Phillips also is a JUCO product, having played at Texarkana College for two seasons. In 2012, he earned All-Conference honors as a shortstop while also earning NJCAA Region XIV Hitter of the Week honors during the same season. His offensive numbers included a .303 batting average with 50 hits, 32 runs scored and 28 RBI.

Phillips is a 2010 graduate of Texarkana Pleasant Grove High School. He went on to earn his bachelor’s degree in Physical Education, Wellness and Leisure and his master’s degree in Exercise Science.

Word from the Coach:

“The number one thing for me is to recruit good people. Any new head coach wants the same thing. If someone were to describe me, I think they’d say I’m fair, but I also hold players to a high standard. If I’m holding you to a higher standard than you hold yourself, things can go south pretty quickly. If you expect to play at a high level and take care of your work in the classroom, you won’t have anything to worry about when it comes to playing for me.”
