Head men’s soccer coach Martin Melchor enters his first season as the Roadrunners’ head coach following highly successful playing and coaching careers – not to mention familiarity with the rigors of Region XIV conference play.

A native of Jacksonville, Texas, Melchor recently served as the Assistant men’s soccer coach at Bowling Green State University, where the Falcons earned a Top 25 NCAA Division I Pre-season ranking. Melchor also spent time as a recruiting coordinator and a goalkeeping coach, and one of his recent players, Brendan Graves, earned the MAC Goalkeeper of the Year. In addition, Falcon Joey Akpunonu was a Top 20 Major League Soccer Draft pick with FC Cincinnati.

Prior to his move to Bowling Green, Melchor served as the assistant women’s soccer coach and recruiting coordinator for the University of Texas-Tyler program.

From 2018-2021, Melchor led the Jacksonville College men’s and women’s programs as head coach and athletic director. During his time on the Jaguar sidelines, the women’s team earned its first NJCAA Division I Top 20 ranking in school history. Both the men’s and women’s teams made their farthest advancements in program history under Melchor’s guidance.

As a player, Melchor left Jacksonville High School as the school’s all-time leading goal scorer. He then took his talents to Coastal Carolina University, making four straight appearances (2014-2017) in the NCAA National Tournament – with his squad reaching the NCAA Round of 32 from 2014-2016 and the Sweet 16 in 2017. In addition, Melchor was part of CCU’s Big South Conference Championship in 2014 and the Sun Belt Conference Championships in 2016 and 2017.  He was a member of the Top Drawer National Soccer Team of the Week, a two-time Top Drawer Soccer National Player of the Week and a two-time All-Sun Belt Team (2016, 2017).

Melchor earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Sports Management from CCU in 2017, his Master of Science degree in Athletic Administration from Texas A&M University-Commerce in 2020 and currently is pursuing his doctorate in Sports Management from Troy University.
